Tribal Nations are the only recognized arbiter of belonging to or being a member of a tribe. No other agency or arm of any government has that responsibility, other than the particular tribe to which a person claims to belong. Every tribe has its own membership criteria; some go on blood quantum, others on descent, but whatever the criteria it is the tribe’s enrollment office that has final say on whether a person may be a member. Anyone can claim Indian heritage, but only the tribe can grant official membership.

How funny that you ask this question. We just VOTED whether to change our Blood quantum recently, It CLOSES TOMARROW for VOTING for the KLAMATH, tribes in Soutnhern Oregon to keep it the same, (that would be you had to be born on or before the ROLLS CLOSED in 1959.) they opened up the ENROLLMENT for Decendants who were 1/4 Klamath tribal Blood. Now the choices are Keep it this way? or Lower the Blood quantum to 1/16 or 1/8. I voted to lower it to 1/8 cause my sons will be able to get ENROLLED after if this passes. But I will let you know what happens. THE VOTING CLOSES tomarrow at 8:00PM Oregon TiME. GOD HELP US In Our TIME OF NEED, AMen Debra Rincon Lopez in OREGON.
