Never Thought About It
Yes there were words of love in his remark
Grandma you need a new step stool
A old stool that has paint on it
The padded top is no longer padded
But
I bought that stool 3 years before he was born
It got me to many high places
I could not have otherwise reached
I remember when he used it to sit tall
at the table
No telephone books or pillows
Just my sturdy old stool
I remember the times he used it
At the kitchen sink
So he could help wash dishes
Or reach things he was allowed to have..
I remember all the little ones who used it
after he grew bigger
The memories in that old stool that is now
over 40 years plus..
That ols stool
It made the unreachable reachable
Was always reliable when I needed
to change a light bulb or paint a ceiling
Was there to assist a Child
to get where they needed to be or
wanted to be.
That old stool is still sturdy
Not rusty
Just old
But laden with memories
Don't think I want a new stool
I think I need to keep my old friend
who has never let me down
Never failed a child in need
It's not as old as I am
So why should it be replaced
With something new and shiny
That was not made to last
Like my old step stool from the past
That is laden with Memories
