April 10 update:
I had to turn off the new design studio because there are still too many bugs in the program. I will turn it back on when they take it out of beta testing and all of the glitches have been worked out.

The design studio is now online and enabled for the members pages. I have spent some time in the ning creators forums and there still appears to be quite a few "bugs" to work out. The program is still in beta so there will be updates and changes to the program over the next few weeks. The new design studio has many new options to do your page...There are new background templetes for you choose from, design you own page or you can add your background CSS. NING plans on adding more templetes in the future.
If you have CSS on your page please be sure and save it before using the design studio so you can add it to the new location.
Give the new design studio a try...you can always go back to the old settings if you don't like th new options.
If you do encounter any problems please let me know so i can check if it's one of the bugs they are still working on.
Problems still being reported is the program not loading and the homepage design studio changes appear on the members pages wiping out their CSS. We had the opposite problem...one of the members CSS took over the homepage! I won't be using the design studio for the homepage till these bugs are worked out.
Happy designing!
Hugs,
LadyHawk

Give Your Members the Ability to Customize their Profile Pages Using the Design StudioPosted by Eric Suesz on April 8, 2011 at 12:22pm in Announcements from Ning

When we released the new Design Studio, some Network Creators were excited but not yet ready to commit to a new, updated theme without the opportunity for their members to customize their profile pages (My Page). Today, we’re happy to report that if you were one of those Network Creators, you can now give your members the ability to customize their own corner of your network.

We’ve now released the Design Studio for member pages. It’s an opt-in feature, and you have three levels of control you can choose to give your members: Theme (for picking a new theme), Customize (for customizing the theme), and Advanced (for adding CSS). It's up to you which of these panels to unlock for your members, and you can always change your mind after experimenting if you like from the Member Controls page on your Dashboard.

We’re very excited about this release, and we want to thank those of you who have jumped in to try it out. We’d especially like to thank those of you who have taken the time to provide feedback and report any bugs to us via a ticket from your Support link. Those kinds of reports are helpful with any new release, so thanks for being so quick to try out this new feature!
If you’re already using the Design Studio, you’ll see this message that prompts you to consider turning it on for your members:

We’ve also included the option to send a Broadcast Message if you’d like to tell your members about their new options. If you’re not using the Design Studio, consider trying it out from the Beta section of your Dashboard.

As with any release, we will have a few bugs to iron out. We’ll be releasing an update to the Design Studio later today, and we’ll weigh in here in this discussion once that has been made live. The Design Studio is still a beta release, so we’ve taken care to make all of these features opt-in. And, if you find that it isn’t working for you, you can turn it off, which will simply return your network (and your members’ profiles) back to its former state.

We hope you enjoy trying out this new feature and having your members get creative with their profile pages.

I'm incredibly excited to report that we are putting the finishing touches on profile customization for the Ning Design Studio. We're looking to release it early next week.

Since launching the Design Studio in February, we've been working to revolutionize the way your members customize their pages. With this upcoming release, members can have as much flexibility over their pages as you do over your entire site:

What's really cool about this is that we're giving you control over exactly how much power your members have. The profile Design Studio has three panels: Theme (for picking a new theme), Customize (for customizing the theme), and Advanced (for adding CSS). It's up to you which of these panels to unlock for your members.

For example, Ning Creators who want their members to go wild will enable all three panels. Ning Creators who want a more unified-looking site will just enable the Customize panel (that's the default setting). You can change these settings any time on your Member Controls page in the Dashboard.

This kind of flexibility reflects the diversity of sites created on Ning. We can't wait to give your members the same creative control over their profiles that you've got on your site today.

Finally, along with profile page customization we'll be releasing a batch of fixes to the Design Studio. As we continue to zap any remaining bugs, we'll look to take the Ning Design Studio out of Ning Labs. This won't mean any changes to your site, it will simply mean that the Design Studio is no longer in beta. You can enable it directly from your Appearance page. Thanks!
YES LADYHAWK I KNOW WHAT THAT DID. LOL YOU KNOW IT WAS SOMEONE THAT WE KNOW. HEHEHE. HOW CAN YOU GO BACK TO THE OLD WAY IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE NEW DESIGN STUDIO. I AM AFRAID TO TRY AND USE IT AGAIN CAUSE I KNOW WHAT IT CAN DO. SO IF YOU CAN JUST LET ME KNOW HOW TO STAY WITH THE OLD WAY. YOU KNOW I LIKE THE OLD WAY BETTER.
