I have been taken advantage of by roommate, etc.,and it is never easy to take under any circumstances,so like the old saying says, don't give someone a chance to give into temptation, whether it was deliberate or not...best wishes to everyone, have a good weekend...

Cindy, I agree with Ladyhawk - you can't approach and speak to this person in a confrontational way. Perhaps he didn't know thw purpose that the change jar would be used for. Perhaps he figured it was 'just change' and wasn't that much money. Perhaps taking change is a habit and he didn't even think much about it.
Maybe if you say something casual like 'I'm saving money in a jar for the kids because money'll be tight with all the things you have to buy with a new baby.' he'll fuss up and offer to re-pay you.
Good luck with the situation. Congrats on the new baby!

Hi Cindy, My older boy is in a similar situation with a new room mate. Some of my son's food and money from his change jar is missing...normally it wouldn't be a problem but my son is out of work and every penny counts. My advice to my son was to talk to the room mate about it just so he knew my son was aware of what he did. We feel the same way...if he had just asked...
As far as your situation I would talk to him. I would tell him he must have really needed the money BUT as soon as he is able to buy a grocery store gift card for the kids because they really needed help to. (I wouldn't ask how much he took) Don't beat yourself up over this...most of the time people do things like this because it's a habit or they "just can". It's hard I know but take a deep breath and get some sleep..
Hugs

Thank you for sharing your situation. I'll have to think some more about this before responding...

I'm in a quandry over this..We had someone who we believed to be honest, house sit for us while we attended the birth of our grandchild. He did't take anything large. but I had a change jar, I had been saving for over six months, mostly quarters..we call it our hug jar. It was supposed to be for our new grandaughter. We were in such a hurry to leave for the hospital. 3 hours a way. I forgot it. There were bills in it too. Well I came in, and noticed all the bills were gone, and all but about 7.00 in colns..There had been over 50.00. I am so sad and angry at the same time. The kids needed the money. The baby came early and we actually gave them money to buy groceries until their food stamps arrive. And I had planned to return in one week with the jar, to give to them. hoping to have it a bit fuller by them. I don't know if I should confront the man. He did admit to my husband that he took a 20.00 bill out but that's all..There were more bills and lots of coin. one part tells me he must have really needed it to steal it. If he would have asked me I would have told him to take the 20.00. As we had offered him 10 dollars a day to stay, all food provide, plus use of the washer and dryer. HE had his own room..anyone have any ideas. I am so angry I can't fall asleep and I hate to hold on to anger. It's jus that it was for our new baby and it really has struck a cord with me. I"d appreciate any feedback.
