The year was 1965 and I was 18. I spent the summer learning to play this.  It brings back memories, my first job and away from home.

I looked it up in Google ...

The phrase "House of the Rising Sun" is often understood as a euphemism for a brothel, but it is not known whether or not the house described in the lyrics was an actual or a fictitious place. One theory is that the song is about a woman who killed her father, an alcoholic gambler who had beaten his wife.

It was an innocent time. I was working at Big Basin Redwoods State Park near Santa Cruz. I was the only one who had Sunday off because I informed the ranger it was a mortal sin to work on Sundays.
