Kidney filtration animation

Animation showing blood flowing in the glomerulus of a kidney. The glomerulus is a network of coiled capillaries encased in podocyte cells (blue and purple). Podocytes have branching interleaved processes (pedicels) that wrap around the capillaries to form filtration slits, which allow efficient filtration of small waste molecules from the blood and retention of larger molecules.
