I am one of the lucky ones
To have lived when the roads were dirt
The highly traveled roads had some gravel
Only two lanes of travel
The dirt roads were usually narrow and
People pulled off to the side letting others pass by
There were no words like road rage back then
Most were hard working Families
Back then Sundays were set aside for Church going
And getting together with Family and Friends
Kids were kids who did their chores
With few complaints
Knowing the sooner the chores were done
The sooner they could hit that dusty road
Meet up with Friends and wade in the ponds
Or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet
Life was not easy back then
But everyone who lived that life
Wishes they could have it all back again
Including me
But I am blessed because I only have
to drive a short distance
on a 2 laned road
To find a dirt road to travel
That brings back many fond memories
Oh yes my friends the picture says it all
When the world around you seems to be unraveling
Walking or driving down a bumpy, dusty old road
Can bring back those peaceful easy feelings
Restoring hope of better days

Dirt roads, rivers, streams and the ocean has always been a part of my life.. Even as we moved around the country i always seemed to be able to find those peaceful places..even in the most grief stricken times of my life..and yes they were at times lonely but gave me great peace..
Peace to you also Michael
