February 16 - Daily Feast

Virginia creeper spreads through the lush compost of the woods like veins in soft skin and climbs through the rough bark of the post oak to the very top. We weave through the rough places trying to reach the top because we feel some ungrateful God has put this on us to deal with - to somehow teach us. But such feelings are false. How many times has the creeper been snagged and pulled from its growing place - as often as we are delayed in reaching our goals. What are we, helpless victims trying to overcome, or hardy individuals that will not be beaten? Attitude, all attitude.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - February 16

"Because woman lives so close to our first mother, the Earth, she emanates the strength and harmonious nature of all things."

At an Elders gathering, held in July 1991, we were told the Indian woman would play an instrumental part in leading the healing of Indian nations. The old people said we were to look up to her in a sacred manner. They said the Earth Mother would give the woman special gifts of love. The woman and the Earth Mother are connected in a special way. Women should pay attention to the lessons coming from the earth. Men should treat the women with respect, dignity and honor.

Grandfather, Grandmother, give the Indian woman Your strength to heal our earth.

'THINK on THESE THINGS'

Sensibility is said to be neither good nor evil in itself, but in its application. Sometimes we just "out-sensible" ourselves. In the course of years we come to see the pattern of the truly sensible. What have we at this moment that really means anything? Does it give us happiness? Did it once seem most impractical? Was it worth fighting for?

The intellectual strives for knowledge and in his absorption leaves the world but hardly leaves a vacancy. The materialistic must have

Everything at the price of peace, and their possessions decay but never their chaotic souls. And the insecure forfeit the most minute comforts to save for that rainy day. Happiness would have been greater and far more lasting if the fund had been smaller and used as an opportunity fund.

The fine line of sensibility can be most elusive but it seems to be more clearly seen when we relax and quit shoving to get there. If the place we desire is meant for us, it will come when we learn the way isn't always sharp and direct and by demand.
