April 12 - Daily Feast

Time equalizes rivalry so that love and friendship finally have a chance to bloom. But the long wait is not necessary. It can happen as soon as one person is glad because another person is glad. Love is not dependent on deserving it. If that were so, none of us would be loved and most would be barbarians. Who we are is not what someone else made us to be - but what we thought and said we could be. Love is cultivated so that we can communicate it to each other.

~ Everyone makes his feast as he thinks best, to please the Great Spirit, who has the care of all created. ~

Elder's Meditation of the Day - April 12

"Dissimilar things were fitted together to make something beautiful and whole."

Sometimes we look at something close up and it appears to be ugly; but then we drop back and look at it as a whole and it is beautiful. If we look at an insect close up, it may be ugly, but if we drop back and look at the whole insect it becomes beautiful. We can drop back even more and observe what its role and purpose is, and the insect becomes even more beautiful and whole. How are we looking at ourselves? Are we focused on something ugly about ourselves, or are we dropping back and looking at ourselves as a whole? We all have purpose, and we are all beautiful.

Grandfather, today, let me see the beauty of the whole.

'THINK on THESE THINGS'

No hope? How foolish, for as long as there is a breath of life there is hope. How many people have sprung to their spiritual feet at the challenge of "no hope" and proved there is always hope? Perhaps there's nothing you can do for me, or I for you, but then again, perhaps there is.

As long as I do not impose the thought of hopelessness on you, and you do not convince me that your strength is all I can depend upon, then there is hope.

The things we sometimes call miracles are merely hopes activated by faith. And a wise teacher has said, "Give thanks for that which you need and soon you will have that for which you have given thanks."

If hope seems to elude you, let us give thanks that it is ours again. Let us speak words that are positive and reassuring and throw ourselves unreservedly into faith and trust, disregarding every emotion that seeks to convince us otherwise.

To lie down and be discouraged is our temptation, but to hope and have faith is our wisdom.
