'Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud
sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our
spring recognition event.

We received the following reply
from the local TARGET management:_/**/__/*

*/_' Veterans do not meet our
area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action
groups, gay & lesbian causes, and education.'

So I'm thinking, if the VietnamVeterans Memorial Wall and
veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria,
then something is really wrong at this TARGET store._/*

*/_We were
not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just
a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance..

As a follow-up, I e-mailed the TARGET _/**/U.S. Corporate
Headquarters and their response was the same.../*

*/
/**/_That's their_/**/_
_/**/_national policy_/**/_
_/**/_
_/**/_Then looked into the company further..
_/**/_They will not allow
the Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots'at any of their
stores. And during the recent Iraq deployment,they would
not allow families of employees who were called up for
active duty to continue their insurance coverage while
they were on military service.._/*

*/_Then as I dig further, _/*

*/_TARGET
_/**/_is a French-owned corporation.

Now, I'm thinking again.. If TARGET cannot support American
Veterans, then why should my family and I support their
stores by spending our hard earned American dollars! _/*

*//*/_And,_/*//*

Without the American
Vets, where would France_/**/_ be today?

'They, most likely would be speaking German and trading in
Deutsch Marks'

~Comment by LadyHawkღ on April 27, 2011 at 10:17pm Delete Comment Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 30 in 2011). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War, it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.

Memorial Day often marks the start of the summer vacation season, and Labor Day its end.

Begun as a ritual of remembrance and reconciliation after the Civil War, by the early 20th century, Memorial Day was an occasion for more general expressions of memory, as ordinary people visited the graves of their deceased relatives, whether they had served in the military or not. It also became a long weekend increasingly devoted to shopping, family get-togethers, fireworks, trips to the beach, and national media events such as the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 auto races, the former has been held since 1911 on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The latter, since 1960 on Sunday Night of Memorial Day weekend.

~Comment by Robert Spiritwalker Murchison on March 21, 2011 at 2:02pm Delete Comment I am a veteran and come from a lineage of those who have served. Very few escaped without scars of any kind and our combined families did not escape making the ultimate sacrifice through the many wars fought. There are members of my generation that were lucky enough to be missed by the projectiles of war. While my son-in-law does carry some shrapnel within him from Afghanistan. May the warrior within all of us live forever. Peace and Blessings, Spiritwalker.
