May 27 - Daily Feast

Our hurts heal themselves in little ways, sounds, scents, a word at the right time. These things are like music that can reach deep inside where material things cannot go. We too often let the cares of the world steal our peace and we lie down in frustration instead of taking charge. But healing waits. It waits for the right moment when our defenses are down and it fills our minds with hope. Start out in faith and the help will come. The beginning is by choice - and the only thing we give up is the idea that nothing can work for us.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - May 27

"One of the things the old people taught me about the spirits was to never have a doubt."

Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTA

The spirit world is sometimes hard to believe in because we can't see it. Out minds convince us to seek proof for everything. We need to believe that the Unseen World exists and the Unseen World is guided by principles, laws and values. If we have doubts, we can pray to the Great Spirit to remove the doubt. He understands how difficult it can be sometimes, so He's always ready to help us during our doubtful times. We are lucky to have such an understanding and helpful Father.

Great Spirit, today, divorce me from doubt.

'THINK on THESE THINGS'
By Joyce Sequichie Hifler

We all know that if it were not for the little kindnesses, the helping hands that we receive from those who touch our lives daily, we would fall more often and much harder. Yet, we must remember there comes a time when we cannot expect others to rush to our aid. It is then that we test the strength of our own self-reliance.

We should make every effort to be worthy of the concern and help of others. It is sharing all phases of life that makes living more than just an existence. But none of us can support others for long who have no will to use their self-reliance. It is said that God helps those who help themselves, but even God cannot help where help is refused.

Then, how much can we depend on ourselves? How would we react to the same situations we see other people experiencing daily? We, who depend so much on our external advantages to pull us through, cannot truthfully foretell our actions in a crisis. But we can have a reserve of faith and strength behind us so that when others reach out to lift us up, we will be worthy of their time spent in helping to build our self-reliance.
