..... with No Insurance...

Well, I thought my asthma was gone, or at least under such control that I have had absolutely no symptoms in about two years now.

Well, past couple of nights I developed the wheezy symptoms of asthma at sunset that last through the night. Not so bad I cannot breathe but can tell with exertion of any kind, doing my Aerobics after lifting weights, power walks, treadmill and step machine out of the question. I have been trying to think what would suddenly trigger this. I have been very active for well over a year now with no problems at all. Eating healthy and no sudden change there at all. Canyon hikes I have been doing for several years almost every late afternoon/early evening with husband with no problems for a very long time never a problem there either.

Well, in the meantime our insurance ran out and can not afford insurance at all right now. We have looked into so many different plans and all want well over 1000.00 a month just for my husband and I.

I have looked into the Medi-Cal and other help options and they all say we make too much to qualify. So, looks like cash out of pocket. I am heading to a Minute Clinic run in those Rite-Ade shops in hopes of just getting a quick check up so I can get an inhaler. Did a lot of price shopping this morning to find best prices and they are lower than any of the clinics around us by far. I was going to go to local Urgent Care but they want over 160.00 deposit. Then they bill you more when all is said and done and will not give discount on medications from what they told me.

Trying to find affordable healthcare when uninsured and overqualified for help is frustrating to say the least!

I will update this when I get done with the Minute Clinic to let you all know what I think: Worth it, good care, actual help...etc...

Siyo, Val.. This is a very LATE response, as your post was made in early Tihaluyi! Hvyolada! (How are you)? Rabbit Tobacco, can be gathered wild, if you know what to look for! It grows straight up, and has a milky grey color to it, when time to harvest, in the cooler part of Fall.. When growing, it is very green, with a small pretty white flower.. This is ANOTHER of those things they do not want you to gather yourself BECAUSE, they: Food and Drug Admin. want to make money on it, from those of us who DON'T have it!! It can be found in Health Food Stores, and GNC type places, and is called Everlasting, OR Pearly Everlasting..You can make a strong tea from it, and have a cup before bed.. It is amazing for Bronchitis and Asthma, and other similar problems.. Nihi tsugasvsdi? (You smoke?) I do not However, I do have a medicine pipe.. Any pipe will do, or, roll the Rabbit Tobacco like a cigarette.. Smoke it, and HOLD in the smoke, (Like someone who smokes pot).. Do an entire bowel full, or a nice fat cigarette.. I PROMISE YOU that this will help! It's one thing I do smoke, and it works! My Grand parents gave this to my Dad when he was 5, and 6 years old for his Asthma.. At night, it was the only way he could breathe well, and sleep! The tea, is extremely BITTER! Just get it down, hot.. Some like to use honey, and lemon, but I don't want ANYTHING to take away from the herb, when I use it.. Surely hope you fine this helpful! Adassligi, vgido.. ( Blessings, my sister).. :)

LadyHawk, that sounds about right. So many people losing their jobs, having their hours cut so companies can claim only part time so no longer required to provide health insurance, people are paying higher bills like rent/mortgage, utilities, water, etc etc costs of everything going up and up yet salaries going down and down so people not able to pay for health insurance with ever increase of premiums and overall costs there.

Local clinics I looked at here and they were more than the minute clinic and waiting list of two to four weeks. So I am happy about how quickly and more affordable the minute clinic was. Air force, or any military if one can get in with some educational training beforehand will help with getting rank more quickly and they do get pretty good health insurance from what I have heard. Hope he can go in with some trade or degree or if not, can get education while there for something that will help him gain rank.

It sounds like you are doing better. I've been going thru the same thing trying to get insurance for us. I applied to the California Healthy kids program and didn't hear anything back for months. When I called they said our app was still on hold because they had a waiting list of 50 thousand?? I had to take the kid in once and they wouldn't put it thru so I went to our County Clinic and he was put on the one time only free for 90 days. The sooner the kid goes into the Air Force the better when it comes to trying to get affordable medical around here. Wish you luck and check with the local clinics. We have a pretty good one at ..of all places...Walmart.
Hugs

UPDATE...

Okay back from clinic going to be working on computer project here at home with my husband. Also catch up on housework a bit.

Went to the minute clinic at a nearby CVS and the doctor was very quick to get me in, looked over, respectful, professional, I feel fairly thorough exam and I got my old prescription refilled with two refills. I did not feel need to go get chest exam/x-ray and doc listened and asked me loads of questions and also did not feel necessary. All for far less than any other place we checked out. Still more than we really could afford but far less than insurance (we cannot afford anyhow)about 130.00 for the meds and exam. Every other place we called about wanted at least 160.00 just to walk in without medications. The medication alone was far less paying cash through them than when I had insurance and had a co-pay!

Anyway, work for me to get to here. I will stop in again later
