His family released this statement:
“Our father Dennis J. Banks started his journey to the spirit world at 10:10 pm on October 29, 2017.
As he took his last breaths, Minoh sang him four songs for his journey. All the family who were present prayed over him and said our individual goodbyes. Then we proudly sang him the AIM song as his final send off.
Our father will be laid to rest in his home community of Leech Lake, MN. Presiding over traditional services will be Terry…Continue

There are many beliefs involving Hummingbirds
Some say they carry messages from heaven
That they seek the sweetness of life hence their love of sweet nectar
Yet as a windstorm moves in
Rain is falling hard upon the earth around me
She seems to know when I am outside in…Continue

I've had fame and fortune, women come knock on my door
I've lived to the limit and maybe a little bit more
There are so many stories of how I got out of control
Some say it's a woman, some say it's my troubled soul
I'm like a crazy old solider fightin'a war on my own
Just me and the whiskey and the bottles are ten thousand strong
You'd think I'd give up as many times as I've been hit
But like a crazy old soldier, I just don? t know…

Baby you're sixteen. That's not old as it may seem.
As for me I can't believe that it's true.
How a little girl who looks and talks like you,
is not mistaken more for twenty two.
Looking in your eyes it's so hard to realize,
that you're a girl who's only in her teens.
But as a woman of my world you are the one
that makes me feel I'm still twenty one.
What am I gonna do, when a young man calls for you

I remember being told once that you can't ever go home again,
well you can but not to the home you left that rainy day in 66.
I look out the window at the rain washing down the streets of my Southern California town
and shiver at the cold 49 degree weather.
" I'm still in Vietnam" I whisper wondering if I'll really ever return from that hell hole,
it's only 10 AM and I'm already on my 3rd scotch of the day heading to 10 or more before…

Success puts you up on a Mountain
You are what you wanted to be
But are you humble and thankful
For all those valleys you walked
That taught you how to survive
Built your courage to change
And the strength to follow through
The greatest times in my life were in those…Continue

REALLY HAPPENING IN Puerto Rico.
First hand report from on the ground in Puerto Rico, via a friend via a friend. They encourage your sharing widely, though you must cut & paste copy perhaps, as it was sent as text from cellphone:
"Its 0400 as I write this, can’t sleep again. I keep thinking about what needs to be done. Sure, we have a plan, ration the water, the gasoline, the food. We’ve been very fortunate. We didn’t get flooded, thanks to 4,100 pounds of sand bags. Yes, I’m…

I. Bissell’s Ride
By Clay Perry
Listen, my children, to my epistle
Of the long, long ride of Israel Bissell,
Who outrode Paul by miles and time
But didn’t rate a poet’s rhyme.
A postman was this Israel Bissell.
Who on his horse, sped like a missile
On April nineteenth, seventy-five,
And few there are who are now alive
Who’ve read of that ride with the “Call to Arms”
Which summoned men with war’s alarms.
At Watertown where the…

A few months back, I met a Lakota woman in town. There were allot of Lakota's here.
As a Catholic, I have always wanted to ease the pain the Christians have wrongly caused the tribes. I read their books, learned their culture. I went to Catholic school. I learned their ways. In 2nd grade we were learning from the Bible of how those who live in Harmony with the Creator's laws are disease Free. Then I had my first vision, it was of a plains tribal people. It's a…Continue

Ghosts of the Sun Dance-Part 1
Ghosts of the Sun Dance
1. The Path
A quest dating back through our history
Surpassing the flesh, a spiritual path
Human endurance, road to mystery
Dark trail winding through the gardens of wrath
It echoes through me, this deep ambition
Half century of miles, lifetime compressed
Much more than a race, a sacred mission
With light of hardship I hope to be blessed
To outsiders, an act of madness…Continue

173rd Airborne AShau Valley Airborne Assault
Many Vietnam Vets, frustrated, bricky hot, dirty with an ageless dirt, tired beyond physical endurance, weary to the bone, scared, skeptical of authority that had lied to them too many times before, boys who had done more than they could in good conscience do, seen more than they could bare to see, lost more than they could afford to lose, when conditions seemed impossibly unbearable, uttered these painful words that became a common…Continue
Like the covered bridges that are all but gone,
so are some words missing in our lives.
In today's fast world, "TIME", is slipping away from us, literally.

So many tell me they are strong and independant
Yet they cannot close the door on the past
So they can live for today
They refuse to forgive hurts
Dragging those hurts into each new day
From the truth
